BEN “KeywestBen” Roberts

Born in Key West, FL which was the Southernmost point in the North American continent and one of the four corners of the continent. The natives of this 2 mi. X 4 mi. island are known as “Conchs” pronounced “konks”. This is a mollusk in a large beautiful shell and at one time when the island was isolated from the main land the natives literally lived off of these sea animals for food.
When leaving Key West after high school graduation I moved to Miami where I married and raised three children. For seven years worked for Florida Power & Light Co. and also seven years for Eastern Air Lines both as Manager of Transportation. Then I moved to West Palm Beach to work for the National Enquirer as Vice President of a subsidiary NDSI, Inc. which lasted for twenty years when I retired in 2000.
In the span of over forty years I was involved in freight transportation which led me to teaching in a junior college for twelve years. Also I obtained a real estate brokers license in which I worked for a short time but mostly used that knowledge for buying and selling my own properties. In between that time I had established and owned several privately held companies in: Transportation Consultant; Contractor; Travel Agent and Restaurant & Bar Ownership.
In high school and in my early 20’s I rode motor scooters and then motorcycles but had not ridden them for fifty years since. Once retired I owned a boat for seven years and when it was sold I took the motorcycle driver license course in July of 2008. After passing purchased a 900cc Kawasaki and after eight months traded that for a 2009 Harley Softail. Then two years and 40,000 miles later, purchased a 2011 Harley Street Glide.
I joined the SCRC in August 2008 and have thoroughly enjoyed riding with the club but especially like the camaraderie with the members. It has been a very good experience and I particularly appreciate all of the members and their families I have met.
